About Raven Protocol

Raven Protocol is a decentralized computing network that pools idle computing power from devices like PCs and smartphones to train AI models. Its core innovation lies in a four-stage pipeline: cluster formation, asynchronous training, parallel multi-ring all-reduce, and fault recovery. Devices are grouped into clusters based on hardware and network speed, then models are split across them. A zero-bubble pipeline schedule keeps every node busy, avoiding idle waits. After local updates, a multi-ring all-reduce algorithm aggregates gradients efficiently without a central server, and periodic synchronization reduces communication overhead. The system also supports hot-joining nodes and automatic failover, making it resilient on unreliable consumer hardware. This addresses the pain point of expensive, centralized AI training infrastructure, enabling anyone with spare compute to contribute and earn tokens. However, the project remains in early stages with limited adoption, and the complexity of coordinating heterogeneous devices poses technical challenges. In the past six months (Feb-Aug 2026), the protocol has focused on refining its training efficiency and expanding its testnet, but no major milestone has been publicly reported. Its narrative centers on democratizing AI compute, yet competition from established decentralized training projects remains fierce.
