About Purse
Purse here refers to the bitcoin spending service Purse.io, not other companies with the same name. It connected bitcoin holders with Amazon gift-card/shopping demand, allowing users to buy Amazon goods with bitcoin or bitcoin cash at around a 15% discount. The platform used escrow: the buyer's payment was locked, the seller placed the order, and bitcoin was released after delivery was confirmed. Its core narrative was making cryptocurrency actually spendable, addressing the pain point that bitcoin lacked real consumption scenarios and that Amazon did not directly accept crypto.
Important status: In 2023, Purse was acquired by Loadpipe and announced the phased shutdown of its original "shop on Amazon" marketplace. New registrations and order creation stopped on July 3, 2023; after August 10, only existing escrow orders were supported; after that, only withdrawals remained; from September 20, withdrawals required KYC. In effect, the original bitcoin shopping service has ended. From March to September 2026, no reliable operational updates on restoring that service appeared on the official site or Twitter; there is currently no evidence that the original Purse bitcoin spending service is still operating.
