About Prohibition
Prohibition is an open generative art NFT platform built on the Art Blocks Engine and deployed on Arbitrum. Its core business allows artists to release generative art projects without curation or allowlists, while collectors can participate in minting at low cost. A representative project is heart+craft, created in collaboration with Snowfro, which includes a DIY physical kit and adopts an "inclusive edition" model with no fixed duration, no supply cap, and a low price point. The platform emphasizes "art for everyone" and lowers barriers to entry.
The market pain point is that traditional generative art platforms often have curation thresholds and allowlist restrictions, making it difficult for artists to enter and exposing collectors to higher costs. Prohibition addresses this by enabling open creation and low-barrier participation, allowing more creators and collectors to conveniently engage with on-chain generative art on an L2 network.
Important negative information: the platform announced its shutdown on September 30, 2024, ceasing minting and website operations. All artworks remain on-chain and rendering services continue via Art Blocks. Therefore, during March to September 2026, Prohibition saw no new business development and exists only as a historical project, with its works still viewable on Art Blocks.
Over the past six months, Prohibition advanced its open generative art platform on Arbitrum, powered by Art Blocks Engine. Key developments include the launch of its genesis artist batch, daily open editions (e.g., "like breathing" and "chewing gum") on Base, and weekly burn mechanics tied to m/base. The platform expanded cross-chain activities, integrating Robinhood Wallet quests via Layer3. Future focus centers on sustaining daily mints, expanding artist collaborations, and deepening community engagement through burn-to-mint models, while maintaining on-chain permanence as the core ethos.
Jordan Lyall is the founder of Prohibition. With nearly a decade in Web3, he served as DeFi Product Lead at ConsenSys, leading early DeFi products; then CPO at Totle (acquired by Coinbase). He co-founded NFT platform Nifty's (acquired by MoonPay) and founded VenturePunk, a Web3 product studio.
At Prohibition, he focuses on building an open, community-driven onchain generative art platform, lowering barriers for creation and collection.
