About Pinata

Pinata is a storage service focused on IPFS (InterPlanetary File System), mainly helping users upload files to the IPFS network and keep them accessible long-term. Its core business includes file pinning, API interfaces, and gateway acceleration. After uploading files via Pinata, users receive a Content Identifier (CID) that can be accessed through any IPFS gateway.

The market pain point is that IPFS itself does not guarantee permanent file storage; nodes may go offline, causing content loss. Pinata solves this through pinning services, ensuring files remain online. It also provides easy-to-use tools, lowering the barrier for developers to use IPFS.

In the past six months, Pinata launched a command-line tool (CLI) that supports managing files and creating/managing AI agents from the terminal. It also improved gateway performance and optimized developer experience. Overall, Pinata continues to refine its toolchain around the IPFS ecosystem, with no major negative events.

Updated: Sep 7, 2026

Over the past six months, Pinata has rapidly evolved from an NFT distribution platform into an AI agent infrastructure provider. Key milestones:

In March 2026, it launched an official CLI for creating, debugging, and snapshotting agents from the terminal, enabling a "local iteration + remote deployment" workflow. In May, it added support for Nous Research's open-source agent Hermes, which features a built-in learning loop, alongside the existing OpenClaw runtime, offering persistent workspaces and multi-environment operations. Around the same period, it released OpenClaw Agent Templates built with partners like Alchemy and ampersend, packaging blockchain APIs into ready-to-deploy agent templates.

The most significant development is the free models initiative: agent inference runs through OpenRouter's free models without requiring OpenAI/Anthropic keys, and new users receive 10 free hours of runtime, with rate and output limits. This allows developers to validate agent use cases at zero cost.

Future priorities: Agent Boards is shifting toward self-driving issues, where agents can autonomously pick up tickets, write code, and submit PRs; expanding the template marketplace with more partners such as MoonPay and Privy; and deepening support for both Hermes and OpenClaw runtimes to strengthen persistence and autonomous operation.
