ATONE is used for AtomOne network staking security and governance voting, and can be burned to mint the fee token PHOTON; it uses dynamic inflation incentives, aiming to keep two-thirds of supply staked.

About AtomOne
AtomOne is a community-driven, constitutionally governed blockchain in the Cosmos ecosystem, essentially a minimal fork of the Cosmos Hub that retains IBC and Interchain Security (ICS) capabilities and positions itself as a neutral, minimalist hub for the interchain network. Its origins trace to disputes around several Cosmos Hub governance proposals, with some community members wanting to preserve the hub's original security-focused purpose and a more balanced distribution of governance power.
Its design introduces several key changes. First, validators cannot vote with delegated stake and may only vote with their own bond, preventing governance power from concentrating in large validators. Second, it establishes a Steering DAO and an Oversight DAO responsible respectively for guidance and compliance oversight, and replaces a foundation controlling part of the genesis allocation with specialized treasury DAOs so that fund and resource allocation result from collective decision-making. Third, it uses a dual-token model: ATONE for staking and governance, and PHOTON as the fee token for all transactions, IBC, and ICS payments, mintable only by burning ATONE up to a cap of one billion. It also adjusts the delegation algorithm to balance voting power across validators and raise the Nakamoto coefficient, and simplifies consumer shard deployment through containerization, with AtomOne providing consensus and networking.
Milestones: On July 16 the v4 upgrade proposal passed with 99.93% yes votes and executed around July 22 at block 9.55 million, introducing Governors governance, a fixed 5% validator commission, the Nakamoto Bonus (starting at η = 3%) and on-chain core DAO modules, audited by Oak Security.
Setback: ATONE hit new all-time lows on October 14 and 21 at $0.0776, down about 71% year-to-date, with market cap near $15.5 million.
AtomOne submitted its v4 upgrade proposal (#21) on June 25, 2026, passed it with 99.93% support on July 16, and completed the mainnet upgrade at block height 9,550,000 on July 22. v4 introduces Governors, a governance delegation mechanism decoupled from staking; the x/coredaos module that turns the constitutional Steering and Oversight DAOs into enforceable on-chain capabilities; a network-enforced 5% validator commission; the Nakamoto Bonus mechanism starting at 3%; an upgrade to the AtomOne Cosmos SDK v0.50 fork and IBC-go v10; and a new 10-gno light client. Oak Security audited the release.
As of October 2026, about 60.5 million ATONE is bonded, with roughly 145 validators and 20% inflation.
Future strategy and roadmap: The official roadmap runs through Phase 1 implementation, Phase 2 validator and ICS mechanics, and Phase 3 cross-zone governance; v4 lays groundwork for ICS/validation-as-a-service and IBC links to Gno chains, while v5 will remove the atomone.gov.v1 compatibility wrapper.
