About Payman

Payman is an AI payment infrastructure that lets AI agents send real money under human-defined rules. Instead of giving an AI direct access to a bank account, you fund an isolated wallet and set boundaries: per-transaction caps, daily limits, approval thresholds, and recipient allowlists. Every payment is checked against these policies before it executes, and the full audit trail is logged. The agent never holds raw credentials or direct account access.

The core problem Payman solves is simple: AI agents can decide to pay someone, but they cannot safely move money. Traditional payment APIs assume a human operator; Payman adds a policy and compliance layer specifically for machine-initiated transactions. It supports both USD (via ACH through Fifth Third Bank) and USDC (crypto), with processing handled by Stripe. This dual-rail approach covers both traditional and crypto-native use cases.

Its competitive edge lies in the policy engine and wallet isolation, not in being another payment processor. The platform is SOC 2 and PCI compliant, and it won the ICBA ThinkTECH Accelerator 'Banker's Choice' award in July 2026, indicating early traction with community banks. A free sandbox with fake money is available for testing.

However, the platform is early-stage: only ACH and USDC are supported (no cards or PayPal), ACH takes 1-3 business days, USDC requires recipients to have crypto wallets, and the regulatory landscape for AI-initiated payments is still unclear. Documentation is decent but community resources are sparse. These are adoption risks, not necessarily product flaws.

Over the past six months (Mar–Sep 2026), Payman has made significant strategic strides in agentic banking. In May, it was selected for the ICBA ThinkTECH Accelerator, a key validation of its mission to bring AI agents to community banks. In August, Payman won the Banker's Choice Award at the ICBA ThinkTECH Showcase, reflecting strong industry endorsement from community bankers.

A major milestone was completing the integration review with Jack Henry across Banno APIs and JxChange, enabling deployment on existing bank infrastructure without core replacement. The company also launched the Agentic Banking Foundations certification, aimed at educating banking professionals on AI agent governance, security, and practical implementation.

Looking ahead, Payman's roadmap focuses on expanding secure AI agent deployments across community banks, deepening integrations with core banking systems, and advancing its orchestration infrastructure to support more complex financial workflows—all while maintaining full auditability and bank-defined controls.
