About Nethermind

Nethermind is a team focused on blockchain technology R&D, mainly providing underlying software and services for blockchains like Ethereum. Their core products include an Ethereum execution layer client, a Starknet client, a block explorer, as well as smart contract security audits and formal verification. In simple terms, they provide both the "engine" for blockchain networks and "health check" services for projects to ensure code has no vulnerabilities.

Their core competitiveness lies in technical research capabilities, such as participating in improvements to Ethereum's core protocol and having deep expertise in zero-knowledge proofs and privacy computing. This addresses a pain point in the blockchain industry: infrastructure is not reliable or secure enough, and it is difficult to meet institutional compliance requirements. Nethermind helps projects reduce technical risks through high-performance clients and security audits, while using privacy-preserving technology to make transactions both transparent and compliant.

In the past six months, Nethermind has made several important moves: they discontinued their legacy cross-chain infrastructure and joined the Chainlink network as a node operator to secure cross-chain interoperability services; collaborated with Stellar to develop a private payment solution with built-in compliance features; worked with Lido to experiment with AI-assisted smart contract audits; and published a report on Ethereum's operational resilience to help institutions assess the blockchain's reliability. Additionally, they joined the ERC3643 Association to promote compliance standards for tokenized assets.

Nethermind, founded in 2017, began as an Ethereum client development team. In 2019, it released its mainnet-ready client, becoming one of the few independent execution clients and a core infrastructure provider for the Ethereum network. In 2022, during The Merge, Nethermind played a critical role as a major execution client, ensuring a smooth transition to Proof-of-Stake. Later, it expanded into zkEVM research and Layer 2 solutions, contributing to the broader rollup ecosystem. These milestones—mainnet launch, Merge support, and zkEVM exploration—represent long-term architectural contributions rather than short-term marketing efforts.

In the past six months, Nethermind released client 2.0.0, merging archive history into the flat state database to reduce archive node disk costs. It introduced Flat DB, a new storage architecture separating accounts, storage slots, and trie nodes, showing ~20% higher execution throughput in early tests; it remains alpha and disabled by default. Nethermind joined the Chainlink node operator network to secure CCIP and Data Feeds. It completed compliance proofs of concept with UBS on Ethereum, enforcing transaction-level compliance at the node and relay/builder layers without changing the protocol. In formal verification, it completed the first known functional verification of a RISC-V zkVM and contributed to ArkLib and SP1 verification. Future priorities include stabilizing Flat DB for production, advancing institutional-grade Ethereum infrastructure with compliance embedded at the infrastructure layer, and supporting Ethereum’s transition to a SNARK-verifiable execution environment through stronger formal verification and cryptographic security baselines.

Nethermind recently underwent team changes: effective September 14, 2026, Alvin Su (@realAlvinSu) became CEO. He has been with Nethermind for over three years, previously serving as Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), playing a key role in driving client relationships and expanding commercial offerings.

Daniel Celeda (@D4nie1) stepped down as CEO to focus on the CTO role, concentrating on AI and engineering. This change addresses growing leadership demands and rapid industry shifts.
