About MyCrypto
MyCrypto is an Ethereum account management tool, spun out of MyEtherWallet in 2018. Users import a private key or mnemonic, or connect a Ledger or Trezor, and see balances and a combined transaction history across addresses in one interface; the tool takes no custody and keys stay local. Before sending it compares the recipient against a database of more than 50 million labeled Ethereum addresses, warning when a known scam address is matched.
It is a power-user tool rather than an entry-level wallet, supporting ENS, raw hex data and custom gas, which suits auditing odd approvals or calling a contract that has no front end. After ConsenSys acquired it in February 2022, the team's work merged into MetaMask-adjacent infrastructure while the interface kept a standalone form. It supports only Ethereum and ERC-20 tokens, has no mobile app and offers no fiat on-ramp, so it is used more for troubleshooting than daily holding.
MyCrypto originated from MyEtherWallet, founded in 2015 by kvhnuke and tayvano, aiming to provide a simple Ethereum wallet interface.
In 2018, due to disagreements over project direction, the team forked to create MyCrypto, adhering to non-custodial and open-source principles, becoming a key wallet tool in the Ethereum ecosystem.
In 2022, MyCrypto joined MetaMask (ConsenSys), consolidating resources to further promote the adoption and security of Ethereum wallets. These milestones reflect the community-driven and decentralized spirit.
