About Murmur
Murmur is a decentralised microblogging app on Base, reachable through web and mobile clients. Sign-up uses an X or Farcaster account as the identifier, the two identities can be linked on the profile, and the app generates a Base wallet for on-chain actions, so no prior crypto holdings are needed to start.
Content is written directly to Base and the timeline is user-controlled rather than algorithmically ranked. In-app interaction is split into explicit actions: a repost-like spread, an attention signal for views, and end-to-end encrypted private messages called whispers. Private data is encrypted with the user's public key and the platform holds neither plaintext nor address book. Clients exist for mobile and desktop, with push notifications for real-time alerts. The design merges social and on-chain identity into one account, leaving content ownership and portability on the user side.
