About Moonfrost
Moonfrost is a pixel-art life-sim RPG focused on farming, crafting, home building, village restoration, and NPC relationships. Its story centers on a broken world altered by a mysterious second moon, with the player acting as a Frost Hunter rebuilding communities and uncovering the past.
The game’s core strengths include polished pixel art, dynamic lighting and weather, and deep character relationship systems. It was initially positioned as a Web3 alternative to Stardew Valley, but the team found that Web2 and Web3 players had conflicting expectations: Web3 users wanted potential economic rewards, while traditional players wanted a smooth experience without a transaction layer. This led to low blockchain feature adoption and the decision to drop NFTs, tokens, and all Web3 elements, with the game relaunching as a paid PC title on Steam. The pivot was seen as abrupt by some players and damaged trust among those who had invested time in the Web3 systems.
Over the past half year, Moonfrost added Spanish, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese localization, led by its newly announced Asia publishing partner for regional community management. Hotfix 1.0.3 improved music looping, rebalanced tool stamina costs, and refined navigation. Developer diaries also revealed work on relationship UI, skin-tone polish, new cosmetics, and an in-game map. The full release is still pending, with a playable demo available on Steam and an Epic Games Store page live.
In the past six months, Moonfrost made a major strategic pivot: it exited Web3 by leaving the Open Loot platform and will relaunch as a premium PC game on Steam, removing all NFT, crypto, and wallet integrations. The shift was driven by conflicting expectations between Web2 and Web3 audiences and the unsustainable pace of blockchain-driven updates.
To preserve its Web3 community, the studio launched Frost Arcade, a browser-based hub for lightweight blockchain games, where existing Moonfrost digital assets (tools, decorations, premium currency) retain utility. A dedicated two-team structure will support both projects.
The demo received multi-language support (Spanish, Simplified/Traditional Chinese) led by new Asia publisher iterco, which will also handle regional marketing and community management.
Looking ahead, the Steam version focuses on pure gameplay and polish without token economics, while Frost Arcade continues Web3 experimentation. Official priorities include ongoing community-driven iteration and long-term features such as NPC relationships and story content.
