In June, it secured seed funding co-led by Airwallex and Capital49, with Airwallex joining as the first design partner to provide local payment rails across 200+ countries and 90+ currencies. This validates Metal's vision as a compliant Layer 1 for tokenized finance.
Most notably, Metal DAO introduced MIP-002 'Homecoming' in August, proposing a migration from OP Stack to Metal Blockchain's sovereign subnet. The plan targets ~0.5s finality via Snow consensus, native KYC/policy/freeze controls for institutional compliance, and MTL as the gas token. The phased migration (testnet → parallel mainnet → exchange transition → sunset) is estimated at 6–12 months.
Future roadmap centers on becoming the neutral settlement layer for stablecoins, tokenized deposits, securities, and AI-agent payments, bridging institutional-grade compliance with on-chain efficiency.

Recent team changes at Metal:
In June 2026, Catherine Porter joined Metal as President and Co-Founder. She previously served as Head of Global Partnerships at Meta's Libra/Diem project, bringing dual experience in traditional finance and crypto compliance. Her addition complements founder Loong Wang, strengthening Metal's compliance and institutional partnership capabilities in the tokenized finance settlement network.
