Mento

Mento is a decentralized stablecoin protocol focused on non-USD currencies, enabling on-chain foreign exchange (FX) for assets like the Euro, Kenyan Shilling, and other emerging market currencies. Its core business is issuing fiat-pegged stablecoins and providing efficient swap markets between these currencies and USD-pegged assets.

The key innovation is the Fixed-Price Market Maker (FPMM), which quotes prices directly from oracles rather than deriving them from pool reserves like traditional AMMs. This reduces slippage and minimizes losses from arbitrage when the oracle is accurate. Additionally, Mento V3 introduces Collateral Debt Positions (CDPs), allowing users to mint non-USD stablecoins by locking USD-pegged collateral, making supply elastic and responsive to demand rather than limited by reserve capacity.

The market pain point Mento addresses is the dominance of USD stablecoins, leaving non-USD currencies with thin liquidity, high slippage, and limited scalability. Traditional stablecoin issuance requires full fiat reserves, capping growth. Mento's CDP model and oracle-driven pools solve these issues, enabling reliable, low-cost FX transactions for under-served currency pairs.

In the past six months (March to September 2026), Mento deployed V3 on Polygon, bringing its FX infrastructure to a major ecosystem with the USDm/EURm pool as the first trading pair. The protocol also added EURØP as a reserve asset for EURm, enhancing regulatory compliance. CDPs went live on Celo, with FPMM pools and rebalancers rolling out progressively. These developments expand Mento's multichain presence and improve liquidity for non-USD stablecoin markets.
