About Lamina1
Lamina1 was founded in June 2022 by Neal Stephenson, author of Snow Crash, and Bitcoin pioneer Peter Vessenes, aiming to build a Layer 1 blockchain for the open metaverse.
In May 2024, Lamina1's mainnet officially launched, completing its token genesis event with an initial supply of 500 million L1 tokens, planned to grow to 1 billion over ten years through rewards. The mainnet is based on Avalanche consensus, marking the transition from testnet to a live network with real value.
Subsequently, Lamina1 migrated from an Avalanche subnet to a fully sovereign Layer 1, gaining greater network autonomy and flexibility in validators and tokenomics, aligned with the Avalanche Etna upgrade. Organizationally, the project split into Translaminal Inc. (development and services) and the Open Meta Foundation (governance and treasury) to ensure long-term decentralized governance.
