About Kwenta

Kwenta is a perpetual futures trading platform built on the Synthetix debt pool, previously deployed on Optimism, Base, and Arbitrum. Users trade with sUSD as margin, using Chainlink oracle pricing for leveraged contracts up to 25x, with no order book, and SNX stakers collectively bearing counterparty risk. Its core competitiveness lies in the deep liquidity and zero-slippage trading experience from the shared debt pool, as well as smart margin accounts supporting cross-market operations.

Regarding market pain points, it addressed fragmented liquidity and high slippage in decentralized derivatives, but also carried risks such as oracle front-running and complete dependence on Synthetix infrastructure.

In the past half year (March to September 2026), Kwenta has ceased independent operations. In November 2024, Synthetix reabsorbed it via SIP-411; the KWENTA token was deprecated and converted to SNX, the trading interface has been taken offline, and related features were integrated into Synthetix's native perps exchange. Kwenta now exists only as an archived historical project.

Updated: Sep 2, 2026

Kwenta was spun out of Synthetix in 2020 to build a dedicated frontend for derivatives trading.

In December 2022, Kwenta supported the launch of Synthetix Perpetuals V2, adopting pull-based oracles to slash fees by ~80% and enable faster price updates.

In November 2024, Synthetix acquired Kwenta via SIP-411 and KIP-138, rebranding it as Synthetix Exchange and re-aligning strategic goals under one protocol.
