About Keet

Keet is a peer-to-peer encrypted chat application that operates without central servers. Users generate their identity via a 24-word mnemonic phrase, eliminating the need for phone numbers or email addresses. All messages, files, and calls are end-to-end encrypted and transmitted directly between devices. Its core narrative centers on "serverless, no data collection," addressing privacy breaches, data monopolies, and single points of failure found in traditional chat apps. Market pain points include mandatory phone number binding, service providers accessing user metadata, and service outages due to server downtime. Keet's decentralized design gives users full control over their data.

In the past six months (March to September 2026), Keet has continued to iterate. According to app store update logs, it added a media picker, mark-as-unread, verified room icons, read-only invite links, and improved call reconnection and lock-screen call handling. It also introduced message translation, video calls, and notification snooze. These updates focus on usability and stability without altering the core P2P architecture. No major security incidents or negative reports have been identified.

In April 2026, Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino unveiled The Resilience Stack, integrating the P2P protocol Holepunch, decentralized messaging app Keet, wallet toolkit WDK, and local AI platform QVAC into an infrastructure for people without access to banking/communication services. The company officially committed to open-sourcing Keet, with documentation and modules in preparation.

Keet maintains a 100% serverless architecture, using the Hypercore protocol stack for end-to-end encrypted direct device-to-device communication, collecting no metadata and requiring no phone number or email. Future priorities include completing open source, integrating a built-in USDT wallet and Lightning Network BTC payments, and strengthening P2P device management (e.g., multisig key rotation) for large-scale scalability.
