In October 2014, Kaiko was founded in Paris as Challenger Deep SAS to provide institutional crypto market data; in 2016 Ambre Soubiran took control and became CEO.

In June 2021 and June 2022, Kaiko closed a $24M Series A and a $53M Series B led by Eight Roads, accelerating global expansion and building out its product suite.

In 2024, Kaiko acquired ESMA-regulated index administrator Vinter and co-published the S&P Kaiko Digital Asset Indices with S&P Dow Jones Indices, strengthening compliant data.

In 2026, Kaiko acquired Cometh and Amberdata and extended its Series B to $110M led by S&P Global; in February it partnered with Bloomberg to bring licensed data on-chain.

On June 2, 2026, Kaiko announced the acquisition of Amberdata, its fifth deal, two weeks after buying Cometh, an onchain data provider holding a MiCA CASP license, on May 20. The combined company serves 250 to 260 institutional clients across more than 200 exchanges, 20-plus blockchains and 20,000-plus assets, adding GVOL derivatives analytics and AI-driven market intelligence. In February it partnered with Bloomberg to bring licensed financial data into blockchain-native environments.

In May Kaiko's data flagged participants front-running Robinhood listing announcements; in June it published its Q2 exchange ranking, led by Crypto.com, Coinbase and Bitstamp, and reported in its State of the European Crypto Market that Bitvavo accounted for 44% of global EUR spot volume; it also joined Paris Europlace.

Kaiko's acquisitions are less about a bigger market-data library than about moving revenue from selling feeds to selling licences: Cometh's smart-contract capability lets licensed Bloomberg and S&P data travel into repo and collateral workflows on Canton as tokens, with the MiCA CASP licence treating that onchain data as a financial asset. No rule requires this, yet it is the precondition for data owners to release non-public prices. S&P Global's lead in the $110 million Series B extension, 260 institutional clients and BMR benchmark status underpin a story that stretches the addressable market from $2-3 trillion of crypto data to over $200 trillion of tokenised-asset pricing. Coin Metrics and Chainlink compete on public data; Kaiko's edge is compliant packaging of private data plus abuse surveillance.
