About Intelligent Internet
Intelligent Internet (II) is an open-source distributed AI system. Its core product, Genii, is a personal AI assistant that lives inside iMessage, requiring no separate app. It remembers user preferences, proactively handles tasks like checking flights or summarizing messages, and can delegate complex work to background agents.
The company's key differentiator is the CommonGround Kernel, an open-source foundation layer that preserves durable records of AI work—what was requested, handed off, and delivered. This creates shared memory across sessions and agents, solving a major pain point: current AI assistants treat every conversation as isolated, losing context and preventing collaboration.
II addresses market pain points including lack of AI memory continuity, inability for multiple agents to work together, and data lock-in with proprietary platforms. By being fully open-source and local-first, it gives users control over their data and AI behavior.
In the past six months (March–September 2026), II launched the CommonGround Kernel preview (May 2026), shifting from orchestration-heavy design to a focused kernel approach. Genii began rolling out on iPhone/iMessage, with plans for more surfaces. The company also expanded integrations with Gmail, Slack, GitHub, and other services.
Notable negative developments: the CommonGround Kernel preview was criticized for being too narrow in scope, lacking built-in memory features despite its stated purpose. Genii's iMessage-only launch limited accessibility for non-iPhone users, drawing complaints about platform exclusivity.
Intelligent Internet (II) builds distributed open-source AI infrastructure. Key milestones include:
Releasing the Master Plan, proposing a "Bitcoin for the Intelligence Age" vision, replacing "Proof of Waste" with "Proof of Benefit", redefining money as a direct receipt for useful work, laying the theoretical foundation for an open intelligence economy.
Launching II-Commons, an auditable knowledge base platform built on PostgreSQL and VectorChord, supporting distributed data, embedding computation, and multimodal indexes, aiming to provide a transparent, open data supply chain for universal AI.
Releasing II-Agent, an open-source generalist agent framework benchmarking against products like Manus, emphasizing auditable and transparent agent infrastructure for regulated domains such as healthcare, education, and finance.
In July 2025, Commons Week released Wave 2, including Common Ground multi-agent collaboration framework, Common Chronicle timeline generation tool, and an Arxiv index with 2M+ paper abstracts, strengthening procedural, cognitive, chronological, and scientific context.
Together, these milestones build a complete open-source ecosystem from economic vision, data layer, agent layer, to collaboration protocols, pushing AI from black box to verifiable, community-driven intelligent society.
Intelligent Internet (II) has made significant strides in the past six months. In March 2026, it launched II-Agent V1, its first production-ready open-source intelligent agent, scoring 61.8% on Terminal Bench and 45.1% on SWE Bench Pro. This was followed by the release of CommonGround Kernel, an open-source foundation layer that persists AI work records, enabling multi-agent collaboration and recovery. In July, II unveiled Zenith, a self-optimizing agent harness that improved GPT-5.5's ranking from 5th to 1st on Frontier SWE benchmarks by dynamically structuring multi-session workflows. Looking ahead, II's roadmap focuses on expanding its integration ecosystem, launching a mobile agent development platform, enhancing custom personality and long-term memory, supporting more frontier models, deepening agentic reasoning, improving execution efficiency, and fostering a community-contributed skills library. These initiatives aim to solidify II's position as a decentralized, transparent AI infrastructure layer.
