About Hyperdrive

Hyperdrive is an automated market maker (AMM) protocol for fixed and variable interest rates, built on top of yield-bearing assets. Its core business allows users to trade fixed-rate loans without traditional maturity dates, using an on-demand minting mechanism where each position is a unique term. The protocol offers continuous liquidity, meaning liquidity providers (LPs) only need to deposit once without rolling over positions, and unilateral liquidity, where LPs only provide the underlying asset.

The main market pain point Hyperdrive addresses is the inefficiency and fragmentation in fixed-rate lending markets. Traditional fixed-rate protocols rely on order books or pools with fixed maturities, causing liquidity fragmentation and poor capital efficiency. Hyperdrive solves this by creating a single pool that covers all maturities, reducing slippage and improving LP returns.

Its core competitive narrative is "predictable leverage without oracle risk." Unlike Aave or Compound, which rely on price oracles and can trigger cascading liquidations during market volatility, Hyperdrive prices collateral based on the contract's redemption value, not secondary market prices. This eliminates oracle manipulation risks and reduces forced liquidation events.

In the past six months (2026-03-02 to 2026-09-02), Hyperdrive launched its leverage market product, enabling high-LTV borrowing for staked ETH tokens (like stETH) and tokenized treasury bills. The initial market went live on testnet, with mainnet deployment planned for Q2 2026. However, in September 2025, the protocol suffered a security incident where two account positions in the thBILL market were attacked, leading to a temporary halt of all money markets and an investigation. The issue was later identified and fixed, with a compensation plan announced. The incident did not affect the HYPED token.

Updated: Sep 2, 2026

Hyperdrive, an AMM protocol for fixed and variable rates, has made significant strides in H1 2026. Its core innovation is a redemption-based settlement protocol designed to address systemic vulnerabilities in on-chain leverage, replacing volatile market liquidations with deterministic contractual settlements. This approach values collateral at its contractual net asset value (NAV), not market price, mitigating 'death spiral' risks. Liquidations occur via the asset's native redemption process (e.g., T+30 or T+90), avoiding reliance on external DEX liquidity. Borrowers can also atomically deleverage at a fixed fee, eliminating expensive liquidator races.

The protocol is live on testnet, with mainnet deployment scheduled for Q2 2026 on Ethereum, initially supporting LSTs (stETH, rETH, cbETH) and tokenized treasury products. Expansion to Avalanche and Hyperliquid is planned shortly after. Hyperdrive's roadmap focuses on institutional-grade leverage, targeting higher capital efficiency and safer collateral, positioning itself as structured credit for DeFi rather than casino-style margin trading.
