Details

Holepunch is an open-source peer-to-peer (P2P) application development platform, built upon the Bare runtime, a small JavaScript runtime designed for desktop and mobile. It provides a complete toolchain for building decentralized applications, including the Pear runtime, a command-line interface (CLI), and the Hyperswarm network for discovering and connecting peers. Developers can write applications in JavaScript and use its modules, such as Hypercore (a verifiable append-only log), Hyperbee (a sortable key-value store based on a B-tree), and Hyperdrive (a P2P file system), to synchronize data, distribute files, or build collaborative apps. Its mechanism works by identifying applications through cryptographic public keys and discovering other peers via a distributed hash table (DHT), establishing direct encrypted connections without central servers.
