About Gyroscope

Gyroscope issues the over-reserved stablecoin GYD, minted and redeemed at one dollar against reserves such as dollar stablecoins, bridged across chains through a custom lock-and-mint design and traded through concentrated liquidity pairs against volatile assets.

It targets fragmented stablecoin liquidity and the cost liquidity providers face managing narrow ranges. On 30 January 2026 its bridge was exploited, with about 815,000 dollars of assets withdrawn and 6.099 million stablecoins obtained illicitly; Ethereum transfers stopped the next day and pools and token trading were suspended. On 1 July a rollup it deployed to shut down permanently, explorer data shows zero supply and market value, and the protocol has ended.

Exploit and prolonged pause: On January 30, Gyroscope disclosed an exploit of its cross-chain contract, in which a flaw in BridgeToken() let the attacker withdraw about 6.099 million GYD and extract roughly $807,000 of liquidity. All GYD pools were then paused. As of August, GYD and GYFI remained paused with no relaunch timeline, and the team had not communicated publicly since April 21.

Infrastructure collapse: The primary deployment chain, Polygon zkEVM, was permanently shut down on July 1, leaving assets in contracts there potentially unrecoverable. E-CLP partner Balancer Labs dissolved its corporate entity in March. Third-party data shows TVL down to about $228,000-$381,000 against an FDV near $24 million.

Gyroscope suffered a cross-chain bridge exploit on January 30, 2026, with 6.09M GYD drained ($807k), and the affected liquidity pools were paused.

The Gyroscope team froze impacted funds, engaged security firms for investigation, and began assessing fund recovery and compensation.

Gyroscope's forward strategy focuses on fixing bridge security and reactivating liquidity, with plans to migrate to a more robust cross-chain mechanism and strengthen oracle and redemption safeguards.
