About Golden Protocol
Founded in 2017 by Jude Gomila in San Francisco, Golden set out to build a self-constructing knowledge graph.
In 2019, it raised a $5M seed round from a16z, Founders Fund, Gigafund, and SV Angel. In 2021, a $14.5M Series A led by a16z brought Marc Andreessen onto the board, alongside a $1M U.S. Air Force contract. The Web3-based Golden Protocol launched in Q3 2021, introducing token-incentivized data submission and verification.
In 2022, a $40M Series B led by a16z crypto, with participation from Protocol Labs and Solana co-founder, brought total funding to roughly $59.5M and advanced a decentralized knowledge protocol.
In April 2024, Golden was acquired by ComplyAdvantage. Its data extraction and entity disambiguation capabilities were integrated into ComplyAdvantage's financial crime intelligence pipeline, while a16z became a top shareholder of the combined company—marking a strategic shift from an independent protocol to enterprise AI infrastructure.
