About Community Gaming
Community Gaming ran grassroots esports events and prize payouts: organisers set formats, registration and prize pools in a dashboard, and winnings were paid to player wallets automatically once results were confirmed, through stablecoins or card payments. It relied on Polygon's low fees for on-chain escrow early on, later adding a membership and points scheme, and tried to standardise amateur tournaments scattered across Discord. It targets slow payouts, expensive cross-border transfers and organisers who fail to pay.
Escrowing prize pools in a contract is the genuinely useful part, since rules and payments are recorded on chain and players need not trust the organiser. Commercially, however, grassroots events have thin willingness to pay, and platform revenue depended on sponsors and publisher deals. On 19 June 2026 the platform posted a wind-down notice, stopped taking new events, and kept only a support mailbox for balances and historical rewards. Users with balances should file through official channels promptly; an on-chain contract is no guarantee of the company's ability to pay.
Community Gaming was founded in 2017, initially organizing offline LAN tournaments in New York. In late 2019, the platform officially launched, offering blockchain-based tournament registration, bracket management, and automated payments. In July 2021, it completed a $2.3 million seed round led by CoinFund, with participation from crypto and gaming-focused institutions. In April 2022, it secured a $16 million Series A round led by SoftBank Vision Fund, with funds aimed at expanding into Latin America and Southeast Asia. These milestones mark its evolution from an offline event organizer to a blockchain esports infrastructure provider.
Over the past six months, Community Gaming has focused on scaling its reward infrastructure and regional expansion. Key developments include:
CGX Token Ecosystem: The team activated the CGX token eligibility checker and began token claims in February 2026, distributing tokens to over 100,000 qualifying users based on tournament participation, quests, and referrals. The points system, powered by Mantle Network, now rewards tournament performance, quest completion, predictions, and daily spins.
MLBB Academy in LATAM: Expanding its partnership with Moonton, Community Gaming launched the MLBB Academy in Latin America, featuring 48 educational videos in Spanish and Portuguese, community tournaments, and in-game diamond rewards. This follows their role as MLBB's official esports partner in LATAM since October 2023.
Funding & Growth: The company raised $16 million in a Series A round led by SoftBank, with participation from Animoca Brands, Binance Labs, BITKRAFT, Griffin Gaming Partners, and Polygon Studios. The capital is earmarked for platform expansion, faster payout options (stablecoins, digital wallets), and deeper publisher partnerships.
Official roadmap priorities: (1) Expanding reward infrastructure for faster, transparent payouts across currencies; (2) regional growth in LATAM and Southeast Asia; (3) improved organizer tools with automation and analytics; (4) broader player reward options including quests, loyalty mechanics, and token-based incentives.
