About Encifher

Encifher is a confidential computation layer on Solana that enables private swaps, transfers, and cross-chain bridging. Its core design uses a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) as an off-chain coprocessor: on-chain programs only handle 128-bit handles referencing encrypted data, while the actual decryption and computation happen inside a hardware enclave. This avoids the performance penalty of fully homomorphic encryption (FHE), achieving near-plaintext-speed processing. The protocol's competitive edge lies in its ciphertext-handle model mapped onto Solana's account model and Sealevel scheduler, which yields parallel, correctly-ordered execution without a bespoke scheduler. It also distributes trust via a threshold-decryption committee and verifies enclave attestation on-chain, avoiding the single-enclave-master-key failure mode. The market pain point is that public blockchains expose all state and computation by default, incompatible with financial applications requiring confidentiality. Solana's native confidential-transfer extension only hides token amounts and supports no programmable logic. Encifher solves this by providing general, programmable computation over encrypted state while keeping composability with other Solana protocols. In the past six months (2026-03-13 to 2026-09-13), the project published its design in a July 2026 IACR paper, migrated its primary interface from encifher.io to encrypt.trade, and reported over 5,000 users and 50,000 confidential operations in production. Important limitations disclosed in the paper: Encifher hides values but not relationships—the existence, timing, and account adjacency of confidential operations remain public. It does not defend against client or key compromise, physical attacks on host hardware, or simultaneous compromise of t or more committee enclaves.
