About Electrum

Details

Electrum is a lightweight Bitcoin client that does not download the entire blockchain. Instead, it queries transaction data from public servers and verifies transactions using Simple Payment Verification (SPV). It supports creating and managing Bitcoin wallets, generating and signing transactions, setting transaction fees, importing or exporting private keys, and working with hardware wallets. Users can create a wallet via the desktop or mobile app, which generates a 12-word mnemonic phrase that must be backed up securely. Electrum also supports offline signing and multisignature wallets to enhance fund security. Its core mechanism is that private keys always remain on the local device, while servers only provide indexing and broadcasting services, balancing lightness with self-custody.
