About Dinero
Dinero is a DeFi protocol built around ETH staking, aiming to make staking more flexible and profitable. Its core product is Pirex ETH, a two-token system: pxETH is a liquid wrapper for staked ETH, usable across DeFi but forgoing yield; apxETH is an auto-compounding vault token that captures enhanced staking rewards. The protocol also includes a decentralized RPC service (Redacted Relayer) and a stablecoin (DINERO), though the stablecoin has faced significant depeg issues.
The main pain point Dinero addresses is the trade-off in traditional staking: locked liquidity vs. yield. By separating liquidity (pxETH) from yield (apxETH), users can choose between using their ETH in other protocols or maximizing returns. The apxETH vault benefits from a yield amplification effect when not all pxETH is staked, offering higher returns than standard staking.
In the past six months (2026-03 to 2026-09), Dinero has focused on expanding integrations for pxETH across DEXs and lending platforms, as well as improving the apxETH vault's efficiency. However, the DINERO stablecoin has continued to trade well below its $1 peg, reflecting low demand and persistent market skepticism. No major protocol upgrades or new product launches were confirmed during this period, and the project's activity appears to have slowed compared to its earlier development phase.
The Dinero protocol originated as an idea in late 2022. Redacted DAO spent all of 2023 developing it, ultimately settling on a phased release roadmap: first Pirex ETH (liquid staking), then the DINERO stablecoin, and finally Redacted Relayer.
Pirex ETH launched in late 2023 with a dual-token model: pxETH maintains a 1:1 peg to ETH, sacrificing staking yield for DeFi flexibility, while apxETH captures enhanced staking yield through an auto-compounding vault. Within weeks, over 1,250 ETH was deposited, and pxETH expanded across platforms including Curve, Convex, Balancer, and Aura, earning governance rewards.
The DINERO stablecoin employs an over-collateralized design backed by a mix of ETH and pxETH, with staking yield automatically passed to holders and a USDC buffer for price stability. This differs from traditional fiat-pegged stablecoins and represents an evolution in DeFi infrastructure.
In 2024, the core focus shifted to expansion and user growth, with Dinero positioned as the future core of the Redacted ecosystem.
Bearish factors:
Following the Plume Network acquisition, Dinero entered wind-down; TVL collapsed from ~$90M to ~$4M as assets migrated to plumeETH. Monthly revenue is only $155, indicating the protocol is functionally inactive; the token is down 90%+, and remaining holders face extremely low liquidity and difficult exits.
