About Diamond Standard
Diamond Standard converts natural diamonds into a standardized, fungible commodity. Each Diamond Standard Bar contains an optimized set of natural diamonds (0.76–2.05 carats) selected through transparent bidding on a global exchange, then sealed with a wireless chip that issues a blockchain-based vault receipt. These receipts enable 24/7 digital trading, while the physical bars remain in audited custody (e.g., Brinks). The company also offers Carats, a digital token equal to 1/50,000 of a Bar, redeemable for physical metal.
The core pain point is that diamonds have historically been non-fungible—every stone is unique, making pricing opaque and investment impractical. Diamond Standard solves this by statistically matching each bar's geological characteristics (carat, color, clarity) to an IPO baseline, so all bars trade at the same market index price published on Bloomberg. This eliminates five layers of supply-chain markup (miners to retailers) and provides a transparent spot market with 1,000+ registered members.
In the past six months (March–September 2026), Diamond Standard expanded to Dubai's DMCC Free Zone (Q1 2026), targeting Shariah-compliant finance. Following AAOIFI Standard 62, its commodities received Fatwa certification from Sheikh Dr. Mohamed Ali Elgari, enabling use in Commodity Murabaha and Islamic lending. The company also participated in a BRICS currency pilot and continued developing CFTC-regulated futures and SEC-regulated ETF products. Note: diamond prices fell ~50% during this period due to lab-grown supply and China's luxury slowdown, but Diamond Standard positioned this as a buying opportunity for institutional adoption.
Cormac Kinney (Founder & CEO): Serial fintech entrepreneur with 4 public exits. Invented heatmaps, designed over 100 institutional trading systems, and managed over $500M for Tudor and Millennium.
