About Courtyard

Courtyard is a collectibles tokenization marketplace. Users deposit authenticated physical items—such as PSA/PCGS/NGC-graded trading cards, comics, coins, and watches—into Brink's vaults, and the platform issues 1:1 tokens on Polygon. Collectors can trade tokens instantly, redeem them for physical delivery, or use the digital "Mystery Pack" format, where a fixed payment randomly assigns a collectible from a pool. The core narrative is "physical custody, on-chain ownership," which removes shipping and authentication friction; selling carries a 0% seller fee, and the platform sometimes offers time-limited buybacks at roughly 90% of its assessed fair market value. Over the past six months (roughly March to September 2026), Courtyard expanded from cards into coins and luxury watches, including a partnership with Luxury Bazaar. According to Privy's blog, daily Polygon trading volume grew from under $1 million in late 2025 to regularly over $2 million in 2026, with daily transactions rising from about 10,000 to more than 50,000. Negative points: card floor prices reportedly fell about 96% from a February 2026 peak; the regulatory status of tokenized collectibles remains unsettled; and custody depends heavily on a single vault provider.

Courtyard was founded in 2021 and entered Y Combinator's Winter 2022 batch. In November 2022, it closed a $7 million seed round led by NEA, with participation from Y Combinator, OpenSea Ventures, and others, beginning to explore tokenization of physical collectibles.

In August 2023, the platform migrated from Ethereum to Polygon, making low-cost on-chain trading of inexpensive cards feasible through low gas fees. In February 2025, it announced the construction of its own dedicated vault, replacing its partnership with Brink's to improve fulfillment efficiency for card intake, unpacking, and redemption.

In July 2025, it completed a $30 million Series A round led by Forerunner Ventures. The company disclosed that monthly GMV had grown from about $50,000 to $50 million, a thousandfold increase, and expanded from Pokémon and sports cards to new categories such as comics and coins. In August 2025, Courtyard's NFT trading volume ranked first in the entire market, surpassing BAYC and CryptoPunks, marking tokenized physical assets as a core trend in the NFT sector.

These milestones show a complete evolution from infrastructure to market leadership.

Updated: Sep 4, 2026

Over the past six months, Courtyard has solidified its position as a leading RWA collectibles marketplace. Key developments include:

  1. Market Growth: Daily trading volume on Polygon surged from under $1M to regularly exceeding $2M, with peak days above $4M. Daily transactions grew from ~10,000 to over 50,000.

  2. Product Expansion: Launched Coin Packs (June 2026) with three tiers ($150/$500/$1,500) featuring certified PCGS/NGC coins. Introduced Bounty Grail (May 2026), hiding an $87K Rolex Meteorite Daytona across packs, driving engagement.

  3. Category Diversification: Partnered with Luxury Bazaar to bring authenticated luxury watches (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet) onto the platform, expanding beyond trading cards.

  4. Infrastructure Upgrades: Migrated to Privy's TEE-based wallet infrastructure for enhanced security, integrated Stripe Payments and Crypto Onramp for seamless fiat-to-crypto transactions, and built proprietary bridge and relayer systems for cross-chain operations.

Future Focus: Courtyard aims to further simplify collectible investing by abstracting blockchain complexity, expanding into new asset categories, and enhancing the "reveal" pack-opening experience. The roadmap emphasizes mainstream adoption through familiar payment methods and institutional-grade custody, while maintaining the gamified thrill of discovery.
