About Coop Records

Coop Records is a blockchain-based music label that releases songs as NFTs. Fans can buy limited digital editions of tracks, gaining ownership and potential value appreciation. Artists earn directly from NFT sales, with a revenue split where artists and collaborators receive 75% and the platform keeps 25%.

The core idea is turning fans into early backers. In the traditional music industry, fans can only support artists by buying albums or merch, without sharing in a song's success. Coop Records lets fans 'invest' in songs early; if a track takes off, the NFT value may rise. Artists also get paid instantly, avoiding the slow, low payouts of streaming platforms.

Market pain points: streaming services like Spotify pay artists very little and with long delays, while Coop Records provides direct, immediate income. For fans, collecting NFTs offers more engagement and a real sense of ownership than just listening.

In the past six months (March to September 2026), Coop Records shifted focus to Japan: three sold-out shows in Tokyo and Osaka, 1,000 tickets sold via ITM Studio, and a mailing list of 2,000 electronic music fans. Its Twitter account now operates in Japanese, with plans to expand touring infrastructure in Asia and six confirmed shows. The platform also launched Coop Protocol, using fixed-price, low-cost mints to make participation easier for everyday fans.

Coop Records was founded in August 2023 as an on-chain record label, paying artists in ETH in real time and letting fans, collectors, and artists share in the collective's growth. Early on, it bootstrapped through low-cost collectibles and COOP points, accumulating 150+ artists and 600+ releases. In July 2025, the platform shifted to a "song coin" model: each song mints a fixed supply of 1 billion tokens, with 5% to the artist, 5% to the label, 10% for incentives, and 80% as liquidity, listed instantly on Uniswap; artists receive a 90-day linearly vested allocation, and trades generate a 1% protocol fee plus a 1.5% front-end fee. This design turns songs into programmable assets and is a key milestone in Coop's evolution from collectibles to a DeFi primitive. In September 2025, Coop completed a $4.5 million raise led by 1kx and Nascent, with participation from 1confirmation, Coinbase Ventures, and others, to expand the song coin ecosystem and governance. COOP holders can vote on which songs are released as tokens and can stake song coins to earn additional collective ownership. Together, these milestones establish Coop's long-term direction as on-chain music infrastructure.

Key progress of Coop Records in the past six months:

  1. Coop Protocol Launch: Deployed its own minting protocol, with new songs minted as fixed editions at ~50% lower cost. Collectors can earn ETH when others collect after them, and the team applied for Optimism Onchain Builder Rewards.

  2. Japan Market Expansion: Relocated to Tokyo and launched an event series. Daniel Allan, MPH and others played three sold-out shows, selling 1,000 tickets and building a 2,000-person Japanese electronic music fan mailing list. The official Twitter pivoted to Japanese-language operations.

  3. Clip.energy Fully Operational: Fans earn USDC rewards for posting show clips, with cash-out to bank accounts. A new re-share feature lets uploaders and re-sharers split rewards when videos gain plays on TikTok. Campaigns ran at Groove Cruise and multiple Japan shows.

  4. Record Label Business: Daniel Allan's "In the Middle" surpassed 1M Spotify streams in its first month, new artists were signed, and traditional label infrastructure was scaled.

Future focus: Use Japan events as a top-of-funnel for signing new artists; connect clip.energy rewards with streaming data; explore combining collection experiences with song tokens. 2026 is viewed as a make-or-break year.
