About Compose

Compose is a smart contract library built on the ERC-2535 Diamond standard. Its core idea is Smart Contract Oriented Programming (SCOP), which breaks contracts into small, independent facets that can be combined and reused. Developers can deploy a diamond once and add or replace functions by attaching different facets, avoiding the need to redeploy entire contracts.

The main problem it solves is the high cost and risk of upgrading traditional contracts. In conventional designs, upgrading usually means migrating all data or relying on proxy patterns, which are complex and error-prone. Compose simplifies this by allowing modular upgrades at the function level, while all facets share the same storage, making data management consistent and straightforward.

Its competitive edge lies in intentional simplicity and code readability. The project deliberately restricts certain Solidity features to encourage clearer, safer code. It also promotes composition over inheritance, meaning developers can build new functionality by assembling existing, audited facets rather than writing everything from scratch.

In the past six months (2026-03 to 2026-09), the project has remained in early development. It is explicitly not production-ready, and access is limited to contributors. No major feature releases or public milestones were confirmed during this period. The library is still experimental, and users should treat it as a research-level tool rather than a stable dependency.

Updated: Sep 1, 2026

In the past six months (2026-03-01 to 2026-09-01), Compose has made notable progress. The project merged PR #373 (August 2026), which added comprehensive behavior-tree-driven tests for the Diamond module, increasing line coverage from 78% to 87% and fixing a regression in facetFunctionSelectors. A whitepaper titled "A Composition Layer for On-Chain Applications" was also published, introducing Smart Contract Oriented Programming (SCOP). Official future focus includes expanding the on-chain standard library of facets, promoting SCOP as a design paradigm, and building a community-driven ecosystem for reusable diamond-based modules. The roadmap emphasizes modularity, security, and cross-chain deployment of verified facets.
