About Community Labs
Community Labs is a native software development company focused on the Arweave ecosystem, dedicated to promoting the adoption of decentralized permanent storage technology. Its core business includes providing developers with tools and infrastructure, such as Arweave Wallet Kit (a digital wallet tool) and Othent (a mobile application), simplifying interaction with the Arweave network. It also operates an incubator and studio, offering full-process support for startup projects ranging from product design, UI/UX, development, to marketing and operational management. Its core competitiveness lies in its deep focus on the Arweave and AO ecosystem, enabling customized technical solutions and resource networks. Regarding market pain points, the early Arweave ecosystem faced challenges such as high development barriers, lack of tools, and insufficient project support. Community Labs lowers participation costs through standardized tools and one-stop services, accelerating ecosystem growth. As for recent developments in the past six months (March to September 2026), no reliable public information is currently available.
In September 2022, Community Labs closed a $30 million strategic funding round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, with participation from Arweave, Bain Capital Crypto, and others. This capital enabled it to build ecosystem infrastructure in the ConsenSys model and incubate teams through an internal venture studio, aiming to bring the first 1,000 active developers and one million users to Arweave, laying the foundation for long-term growth.
In October 2022, Community Labs launched its first product, Execution Machine (EXM), in beta. EXM is a code-agnostic smart contract framework using serverless permanent functions (lambda-style) that allows Web2 developers to quickly build decentralized applications with Arweave permanent storage. This provided critical developer tooling for Arweave's application layer, marking a key milestone for mass Web3 adoption.
Community Labs, an Arweave-native software developer, has made significant strides in the past six months (2026-03-07 to 2026-09-07). Key developments include:
Partnership with Secret Network: Integrated Arweave Data Storage SDK with Secret AI SDK to enable private, decentralized data storage for on-chain AI agents. This allows encrypted storage of AI outputs, metadata, and training datasets on Arweave while leveraging Secret's confidential virtual machines for private computation.
Multiple Proofs of Concept (POCs): Developed several POCs demonstrating encrypted AI outputs and agent metadata stored immutably on Arweave, including a trading agent using natural language to showcase live utility.
Arweave Community Hackathon: Participated with a $13K prize pool to foster ecosystem innovation.
Future focus areas per official announcements:
- Building core tools, protocols, and consumer products for a user-controlled, AI-native internet on Arweave and AO
- Advancing verifiable AI infrastructure combining decentralized storage, compute, and privacy
- Scaling the Wander wallet as the leading gateway to the Arweave/AO ecosystem
- Continuing integration of AI agents with permanent storage and confidential computing to create a privacy-enhanced framework for decentralized AI applications
Tate Berenbaum, Co-founder & CEO of Community Labs, has led the venture studio since 2022. Previously, in 2020, he built the first DEX on Arweave and developed a Deno module registry, repurposing Arweave as a CDN. In 2021, he launched the first wallet for Arweave with account connectivity. His work reflects continuous innovation in permanent data storage.
