About Colu
Colu was a technology company focused on city digital currencies and local economic incentives. It developed a mobile app that allowed residents to earn points by taking actions such as recycling, using public transport, or shopping locally, which could then be spent at participating local businesses. The core narrative was to make cities more livable by using economic incentives to drive civic engagement. It aimed to solve problems like low foot traffic for local merchants, weak community participation, and lack of data for city management. However, the company ceased its operations in Israel in 2020, and was acquired by QRyde in 2024. The original product is no longer active. As of the recent six months (March to September 2026), there have been no public updates, indicating the service has effectively exited the market.
Colu was co-founded by Mark Smargon, Amos Meiri, and David (Dudu) Ring. Mark Smargon served as VP of Blockchain at Colu and later founded Fuse, where he is currently CEO. Amos Meiri is the Chairman and co-founder, having previously held the CEO role. David Ring was co-founder and VP of R&D. The current CEO is Ortal Tevel.
