About Coinbase Wallet
Coinbase Wallet is a self-custody crypto wallet from Coinbase where users hold their own private keys, connect to dApps and send or receive assets and tokens across multiple chains. It targets users who want to leave custodial control and interact directly with on-chain applications, as a mainstream entry-level wallet.
Mechanically, Coinbase Wallet places asset control in the user's local private keys and connects to dApps on networks like Ethereum and Solana through standard wallet connection, without the exchange custodian holding funds; signing and authorization are done by the user. Its narrative is a mainstream self-custody wallet stressing full user control of assets and signatures plus universal access across chains. Users back up their own seed phrases, and a loss cannot be reversed through support, an inherent premise of self-custody. Users bear the consequences themselves.
On September 10, 2026, Coinbase restored the Coinbase Wallet name to the self-custodial app it had relaunched as Base App, formally dropping the social-feed direction: the social layer and creator rewards had been cut early in the year, and in July Base creator Jesse Pollak handed the app to Jordan "Cobie" Fish while conceding parts of the social build had fallen short. The restored product is a multichain trading front door across more than ten networks including Base, Ethereum, Bitcoin, Solana, BNB Chain, Monad and Robinhood Chain, with perpetuals routed through Hyperliquid and prediction markets and tokenized stocks folded in; Pulse Mode on September 12 moved perp trading into the mobile app's main interface.
Coinbase Wallet's Future strategy and roadmap: Coinbase is using the wallet as a testing ground where perpetuals, prediction markets and tokenized stocks appear before any decision to bring them to the centralized exchange, with each new category going through separate product and compliance review; features for following other traders are in development, and networks are added as they launch.
