About Carbonplace

Carbonplace is a blockchain-based global carbon credit trading network backed by major banks. Its core business connects multiple carbon registries through a single platform, enabling financial institutions and corporate buyers to trade, settle, and retire carbon credits efficiently.

The company's value proposition centers on building trusted market infrastructure. By leveraging bank-grade compliance frameworks and distributed ledger technology, it addresses key pain points in the voluntary carbon market: fragmented registries, opaque pricing, manual settlement processes, and title risk. The platform provides a unified view of credit inventories, real-time price discovery, and secure transfer of ownership.

In the past six months (March to September 2026), Carbonplace expanded its registry network to 14 by integrating the eva Registry, which focuses on European forest-based projects with high transparency standards. It also added credits from Tradewater (superpollutant destruction projects) and Accend (biochar carbon removal), diversifying its project types. Notably, in August 2026, Carbonplace announced a planned merger with Singapore-based Climate Impact X (CIX), subject to regulatory approval, aiming to combine CIX's exchange capabilities with Carbonplace's banking network. The integration is expected to complete by Q4 2026.

One notable challenge: platform web traffic has declined significantly year-over-year, suggesting adoption hurdles despite partnership momentum.

The most significant development in the past six months: On 26 August 2026, Carbonplace announced a merger agreement with Singapore-based Climate Impact X (CIX). The combination aims to integrate CIX’s carbon credit procurement, trading and price-discovery capabilities with Carbonplace’s multi-registry access, bank-grade settlement, custody and portfolio-management infrastructure, creating a unified platform covering the full transaction lifecycle. The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals including from the Monetary Authority of Singapore, with completion expected in Q1 2027. The combined entity will be led by CIX CEO Oi-Yee Choo, with Carbonplace CEO Scott Eaton as President. Shareholders include 12 banks and institutions such as DBS, SGX Group, GenZero, UBS, BNP Paribas and Standard Chartered.

Officially stated future priorities: build infrastructure comparable to mature financial markets to improve traceability, audit trails and ownership records, thereby attracting banks and institutional investors; operate across both voluntary and compliance schemes (e.g. Paris Agreement Article 6 and CORSIA); simplify access to fragmented registries and standards; and scale liquidity. This comes as voluntary carbon market transaction volumes fell 25% in 2024, making the merger a key step toward consolidation and trust rebuilding.
