Botto is a decentralized autonomous AI artist. Its core business is an automated art pipeline: each week the system generates tens of thousands of images, uses a community-trained “taste model” to narrow them to 350 candidates, and lets BottoDAO token holders vote. The winning work is minted as an NFT and auctioned. The DAO shares sales proceeds with active participants.

Its core narrative is “autonomous co-creation”: the AI creates without direct human intervention, while the community shapes its taste through voting. This positions Botto as a long-running experiment in human-AI collective authorship and decentralized governance of an art system.

Market pain points it addresses include the opacity of AI art creation, centralized control by a single artist or studio, and the lack of sustainable feedback loops between audiences and generative systems. Botto tries to make the process transparent, community-governed, and continuously adaptive.

In the past six months (2026-03-13 to 2026-09-13), Botto debuted “Mirror Stages” at Art Basel Hong Kong 2026, a live installation that observed crowd behavior and transformed images in two-hour generative sessions. It also continued weekly auctions and governance. As of the exhibition, Botto had produced over 7 million images, minted about 200 canonical works, and generated over $6 million in sales.

A notable negative event within two years: in 2025, Botto’s image generation was reported to rely on a centralized API, raising concerns about its claimed autonomy. The team acknowledged the issue and committed to further decentralization, but the underlying infrastructure was not fully decentralized within the reporting period.
