About Blockcast
Blockcast is a decentralized broadcast delivery network that uses multicast technology to stream live video more efficiently. Its core innovation is TreeDN, an architecture combining SSM and AMT to enable one-to-many transmission over existing ISP infrastructure. This reduces bandwidth costs by orders of magnitude compared to traditional unicast CDNs, especially for high-traffic live events. The network incentivizes ISPs and edge nodes to participate via DePIN mechanisms, turning underutilized routers into delivery points. Key pain points addressed: rising video traffic, high CDN costs, and ISP infrastructure underuse. Recent developments (Feb-Aug 2026) focus on scaling the TreeDN deployment, enhancing multicast coverage across more ISP networks, and refining the incentive system for node operators. Potential challenges include technical complexity of multicast adoption and dependence on ISP cooperation, but no major public failures were reported in this period.
