About Backseat
Backseat is a Japanese provider of embedded Web3 services that folds crypto asset functions into a partner's app or other digital product, so users can open an account, trade and manage assets inside the product they already use rather than being sent to an external exchange. Integration is offered without upfront cost, with the shortest path from enquiry to launch being the following month.
The partner owns the front end and the customer relationship, while Backseat handles the internal control framework a licensed operation requires, development and operation of the trading system and user interface, and operations work such as customer support, incident response and client asset custody. The team comes from crypto exchanges and finance, and the company runs fully remote with flexible hours. Scope is limited to integrations with partners inside Japan under a B2B white-label model.
Backseat supplies licensed trading capability to partners on an embedded basis, starting with Ponta, a loyalty platform with more than 18 million monthly users where customers trade crypto without installing another app. On October 5, 2026, its exchange entity obtained a SOC 2 Type 1 assurance report, the first Japanese crypto asset exchange to do so, aimed at institutional custody demand and preparation for domestic crypto ETFs.
Backseat builds on licensed custody and B2B2C distribution for large apps and financial institutions, pre-building controls and products for the 2027 regulatory shift that moves crypto assets from the Payment Services Act to the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act.
