About Anchorpoint
Anchorpoint, a Hong Kong-based stablecoin issuer, launched its HKD-pegged stablecoin HKDAP in phases starting August 2026. The company is a joint venture backed by Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong), HKT, and Animoca Brands, and obtained a stablecoin issuer license from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) in April 2026.
Its core business focuses on issuing HKDAP, a fully fiat-backed stablecoin operating on public blockchains. The company adopts a B2B2C model, working with authorized distributors such as HashKey Exchange to serve institutional and professional investors. Initial use cases target cross-border payments and settlement of tokenized real-world assets (RWA), aiming to reduce transaction costs and settlement times compared to traditional banking systems.
The main market pain point addressed is the inefficiency of traditional cross-border payment rails, which are often costly, slow, and not available 24/7. Additionally, the Hong Kong dollar stablecoin reduces reliance on USD-pegged stablecoins in regional trade and finance.
In the past six months (February to August 2026), Anchorpoint progressed from holding a sandbox position to receiving the first batch of stablecoin issuer licenses in April 2026. It completed technical testing on Ethereum mainnet in May, and officially launched the first phase of HKDAP on August 12, 2026, with HashKey completing the first minting and redemption transactions. The company targets retail expansion by end of 2026, subject to market conditions.
One notable negative event: in early 2026, the HKMA warned about counterfeit tokens falsely claiming to be HKDAP, highlighting fraud risks in the market.
In April 2026, Anchorpoint obtained a stablecoin issuer licence (FRS01) from the HKMA, becoming one of Hong Kong's first licensed issuers. In Q2, it completed HKDAP minting and public blockchain transfer tests. On 12 August, it launched Phase 1 Beta Access institutional rollout, with authorised distributors offering fiat conversion to corporates and professional investors, focusing on cross-border payments and settlement/distribution of tokenised RWAs. In September, it signed an MoU with Bank of East Asia to explore HKDAP use in payments and settlement. Official roadmap: institution-first then retail, with retail access targeted as early as end-2026; B2B2C model to expand ecosystem and Global South reach.
