About ACINQ
ACINQ is a Bitcoin technology company founded in Paris in 2014 that has long worked on Lightning Network infrastructure. It maintains Eclair, a Scala implementation of the Lightning Network that follows the BOLT specifications and interoperates with other implementations such as Core Lightning and lnd, and the company also runs a routing node of its own.
Its user-facing product is the Phoenix self-custodial wallet for iOS and Android: the wallet runs a full Lightning node on the phone and manages channels automatically, with the user holding a 12-word recovery phrase and able to force-close channels and recover funds on-chain unilaterally at any time. Sending costs about 0.4% plus 4 sats, receiving is free while inbound capacity lasts, and channel creation carries a fixed fee; the wallet code is open source. A stripped-down node called phoenixd focuses on sending and receiving, and the team took part in early Lightning specification work and cross-implementation interoperability tests.
By 2026 ACINQ's Phoenix had passed 100,000 Google Play installs, still running a single spliced channel with no manual management, while on-chain sends and receives use splice-in and splice-out; the headless phoenixd build ships an HTTP API for merchants and developers.
ACINQ also maintains the Eclair implementation.
ACINQ will pursue reproducible builds and BOLT12 reusable payment requests, keep driving channel costs down through splicing and Taproot channels, and extend phoenixd into merchant acceptance and automated settlement.
