Stock Derivatives Exchange Ranking Explained
RootData ranks exchanges that support stock derivatives trading, helping users understand each platform's trading activity, liquidity, contract coverage, trading costs, and data completeness in the stock derivatives market.
This ranking covers both centralized and decentralized platforms. Exchanges may be considered if they offer stock perpetuals or stock-related derivatives, and if RootData can access and verify key market data. Index derivatives, commodity derivatives, forex derivatives, real stock spot trading, and crypto contracts that only share the same ticker as a stock are not included.
Exchange Score
Each exchange receives a composite score that reflects the overall performance of its stock derivatives business. The score considers factors such as trading volume, open interest, order book depth, spreads, fees, funding rates, number of stock contracts, margin paths, and data availability.
In general, a higher score indicates stronger stock derivatives activity, better liquidity, broader contract coverage, clearer trading costs, and more stable data accessibility.
RootData will continue to improve the scoring model so the ranking can better reflect real market conditions across stock derivatives exchanges.
Data Sources
RootData's stock derivatives ranking is mainly based on public exchange APIs, official APIs provided by exchanges, public trading pages, and RootData's internal data cleaning, verification, and standardization process.
We prioritize data obtained directly from exchanges and standardize key metrics such as trading volume, open interest, funding rates, contract types, and margin paths across platforms. Contracts with unclear field definitions, unverifiable data, or suspected crypto ticker conflicts are not directly included in the ranking.
This allows RootData to build a dedicated independent data source for stock derivatives exchanges.
Liquidity and Trading Activity
The ranking focuses on 24h trading volume, open interest, spreads, and order book depth for each exchange's stock derivatives. These metrics help users assess whether a platform has real trading activity and what level of liquidity or slippage users may face.
Contract Coverage and Trading Costs
RootData also considers the number of stock contracts supported by each exchange, margin assets, Maker / Taker fees, and funding rates. These metrics help users understand contract coverage and actual trading costs across different platforms.
Data Updates
RootData updates the stock derivatives exchange ranking on a regular basis. Dynamic market data is collected at fixed intervals, and ranking scores are calculated from recent valid data snapshots. Data sources and the latest update time will be shown at the bottom of the page.
Exchange Data Submission
If an exchange offers stock derivatives trading but is not yet included in RootData's ranking, or believes the displayed data is incomplete, it may contact RootData to submit official APIs, contract lists, fee rules, margin rules, order book data, or other supporting information.
RootData will evaluate submitted data based on verifiability, completeness, and stability before deciding whether to include it in the stock derivatives exchange ranking.
