About Seismic
Seismic is a privacy-enabled EVM blockchain. Its core business is allowing developers to write standard Solidity smart contracts with shielded state types (suint, sbool, saddress) and encrypted transaction inputs, while keeping the underlying data invisible to external observers. The technology combines a modified Solidity compiler with Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) nodes, so decryption happens only inside the TEE at the node level.
The market pain point Seismic addresses is the inherent transparency of public blockchains. On standard chains, every balance, transaction, and contract state is visible to anyone, leading to problems such as MEV extraction, competitive intelligence leaks, and user privacy exposure. Existing privacy solutions like ZK-rollups, mixers, L2 privacy layers, and FHE each have significant tradeoffs: they require new languages, sacrifice composability, or suffer from computational overhead. Seismic's approach aims to avoid these tradeoffs by keeping the developer experience identical to standard Ethereum while adding privacy at the protocol level.
In the past six months (2026-02-28 to 2026-08-31), Seismic has been actively developing its technology stack. The project's GitHub repository shows ongoing work across multiple forks (reth, revm, alloy, foundry), with a plan to consolidate into a single monorepo. Recent updates include improvements to encrypted mempool handling, new cryptographic primitives for shielded storage, and progress on testnet deployments. The project has also published documentation explaining the technical architecture in detail, including the limitations of TEE-based approaches such as potential side-channel attacks and the need for thorough code audits.
A notable risk is that TEE-based privacy relies on hardware trust assumptions. While Intel TDX mitigates many side-channel attacks, it is not a perfect security boundary, and software bugs in the node implementation could potentially leak private data. The project acknowledges this and emphasizes open-source code and audits as mitigations.
Seismic, a privacy-enabled blockchain startup, completed a $7 million seed round led by a16z Crypto, with participation from Polychain, 1kx, NGC, and dao5. Subsequently, it raised an additional $10 million in a funding round also led by a16z crypto, with participation from Polychain, Amber Group, TrueBridge, dao5, and LayerZero, bringing total funding to $17 million. The project focuses on building a privacy layer for stablecoin and fintech applications, enabling confidential transactions on public blockchains. Its core innovation lies in protocol-level encryption using secure hardware, distinguishing it from wallet-level privacy solutions. Seismic targets regulated financial institutions, offering compliance-friendly privacy for payments, lending, and asset management.
