About Kairos

Kairos is an on-chain interest rate swap protocol that allows users to lock in fixed or floating rates for specific assets. Its core business enables market creators to establish custom interest rate markets, where buyers and sellers exchange rate exposure without exchanging principal. The protocol relies on oracle-provided rate data, supports leverage, and uses a liquidation mechanism to manage risk.

The main value proposition is its permissionless and composable design. Anyone can create a market for any yield-bearing asset, and liquidity providers can supply assets to earn fees. The protocol's architecture separates risk parameters, allowing for flexible market design while maintaining capital efficiency through collateralization rather than principal exchange.

The market pain point it addresses is the volatility of DeFi lending rates. Borrowers and lenders face unpredictable interest costs or returns, making long-term financial planning difficult. Kairos provides a tool to hedge this risk, similar to interest rate swaps in traditional finance, but fully on-chain and accessible to anyone.

Regarding development over the past six months (2026-03-04 to 2026-09-04), the protocol remains in early stages. The documentation indicates the mainnet has not yet launched, with the protocol still in testing or development phases. No significant user growth or trading volume data is publicly available. The project has not reported any major security incidents, but also lacks substantial operational history. Its long-term viability remains unproven, as the protocol has not yet demonstrated real-world usage beyond test environments.

In the past six months, Kairos achieved several key milestones. On March 25, 2026, the company announced a $2.4 million seed round led by 6th Man Ventures, with participation from Lattice, Advancit Capital, and Compa Capital. Prior to that, the protocol completed a TVL-capped beta on Base, generating over $300 million in notional swap volume, and the team graduated from the Alliance Accelerator. Kairos also published a technical whitepaper detailing a permissionless, non-custodial interest rate swap protocol built for the EVM, and announced an upcoming launch on Ethereum mainnet and Base.

Looking ahead, Kairos plans to build complete onchain interest rate swap infrastructure supporting any reference rate and duration, including Aave and Morpho lending rates as well as LST/LRT staking yields. The protocol uses AMM-based pooled liquidity with one-way markets and oracle-anchored settlement for reliable long-duration swaps. Collateral will include USDC, LSTs, PTs, and more. Additionally, Kairos will integrate with Morpho Vault V2 and the ERC-4626 standard, enabling liquidity providers to participate through vault strategies. The ultimate goal is to enable fixed-rate lending and fixed-income products in DeFi, giving onchain credit markets proper risk management tools.
