About Immutable

Immutable is a Web3 gaming infrastructure provider offering a full stack of products: Immutable zkEVM (an Ethereum-compatible Layer 2 chain), Immutable Passport (a non-custodial wallet with email/social login), and an NFT trading marketplace. Its core value is reducing friction for traditional gamers: Passport removes the need to manage seed phrases or pay gas fees, while the zkEVM enables low-cost, fast transactions. The market pain point is that existing crypto wallets and chains are too complex for mainstream players, causing high onboarding drop-off. Immutable solves this by integrating wallet creation, transaction sponsorship, and game-specific SDKs into one platform.

In the past six months (March–September 2026), Immutable completed the migration of its legacy Immutable X network onto the new Immutable Chain, unifying its infrastructure. The SEC investigation announced in 2024 was closed in March 2026 without enforcement action. The company also shifted focus toward an AI-driven marketing platform for game user acquisition, while reducing its in-house game development team by 29 roles. Despite these changes, Immutable continues to operate its core chain and wallet services, though no major new partnerships or network growth metrics were disclosed during this period.

Immutable's key milestones include: 1) The IMX staking reward mechanism, which strengthens token utility and long-term ecosystem engagement. 2) The launch of Immutable zkEVM with ERC-1155 support, marking a significant technical upgrade for scalable gaming assets. 3) The strategic closure of the Immutable X marketplace in August, consolidating focus on broader ecosystem infrastructure. 4) The scheduled release of Illuvium in late July, representing a major AAA game deployment on the platform. 5) Growing institutional interest in Web3 gaming, with co-founders projecting a 10x increase in institutional investment, signaling market maturation. These events collectively highlight Immutable's evolution from a gaming platform to a comprehensive Web3 infrastructure provider, with emphasis on technical scalability, tokenomics, and institutional adoption.

In the past six months, Immutable underwent a major strategic transformation. First, its chain merge was implemented: since March, the unified Immutable Chain (zkEVM-based) has been fully operational, consolidating assets and liquidity from the previous Immutable X and zkEVM. On June 19, IMX staking migrated to the new chain, requiring users to trade at least one NFT every 14 days to earn rewards, with the reward pool being 20% of protocol fees.

Second, the business focus shifted from in-house games to an AI growth platform. In June, Immutable significantly cut its internal game development teams, pivoting to Immutable Audience, which uses AI to help game publishers acquire, engage, and monetize players, serving over 700 games. On July 30, Immutable launched Polygon Hub, integrating several major Polygon games and leveraging AggLayer to unify cross-chain liquidity.

Looking ahead, Immutable plans to expand Audience to the entire game market (including Web2), targeting about 500 new games per year. Its collaboration with Ubisoft on Might & Magic: Fates showed pre-registration to download conversion rising to 10.2%. The company expects to burn hundreds of thousands monthly to fuel growth, not pursuing short-term profitability.
